Welcome and Call to Order—Cathy Peck  12:08PM

·         Introduction to new executive officer members

·         Recap of last year’s Business

·         What a Union does? Protects your rights as a teacher.

·         This is a contract negotiations year

·         Program director logs are really important to keep. Please make sure you are keeping your logs as accurately as you can.  Need to know what categories each belong under.

·         Do not update any equipment on your own. Make a call to the help desk.

·         Union shirts can still be ordered let us know if you need/want one

·         Union newsletter needs a new leader.

 

1.     Union Mentors Introduction of new members (4 New Members)

2.     Leigh Barker- UTCC speaks: Explanation on the UTCC, gives mission statement, what is coming up with state and governor’s race. Union is involved in the health care debate.

3.     Budget and dues—Flint Thompson Breakdown of dues and the increase of $1.25 per check due to negotiations; Cathy Peck notes that the AssociationExecutive voted to approve the budget to be purposed to membership. Thompson requests approval from membership.

4.     Contract negotiations -- Al Dohm Invites members to join the planning committee for union negotiations. The goal is to have contract ready when the current one expires June 30, 2010. We need to identify most pressing issues for members.  Handed out sign-up sheet to participate on negotiations planning team or send your request to Al Dohm via email before Labor Day. The first meeting will be Sept 11, 2009, on the Gateway Campus.

5.     Legislation Committee Report – Jeff Pepper - Looking for people to join the legislation committee; welcomes all who have any interest. Call or email Pepper or let Tammy Stone know of your intereste.

6.     Technology Report – Brian Schwann NA - Peck gives brief report; notes plan to upgrade technology in classroom. The committee now writes policies and procedures. Requests members to use the help desk; it is only way to get issues known.

7.     Grievance: Update and settlements – Kevin Hulke : Patt Griffin and Hulke are the co-chairs of the grievance committee. If things seem not right, talk to your Union steward or Hulke or Griffin. Looking for new members of the committee Hulke or Griffin are happy to talk to you about the opportunity to join and looking for people who disagree with them, because it helps make our arguments stronger.  Meetings shooting for M, T or W afternoons. Leigh Barker explains examples of issues that the grievance committee deals with. Peck notes that grievance committee is best place to learn about your contact and union issues. We provide local training for those interested in becoming active in the grievance committee. It is fun!!!

8.     Sick Leave Pool Update—Mary Felton-Kolstad Developed a sick leave pool in the past. Looking for members to join the committee. Email Felton-Kolstad. We are in good shape if you would like to donate you can put them into the bank. We could use 10 more hours.

9.     Insurance/Benefits Committee—John Joadwine Heath care issues. New committee created that will provide input to negotiations committee.  Introduced committee members. Said he will keep all the members informed. Asks members to send insurance questions, comments, concerns to Joadwine via e-mail.

·        Kevin Hulke: email from Claudeen Oebser about your syllabus; Hulke believes it if the good of the students that you send it in. Please make sure they are sent to her.

·        Ric Messner questions search for new VP of Education: Peck indicates that we will not have new VP in place when Joe leaves. Candidates are being selected.

·        Michelle O'Connell and Marcy Bruflat: Introduce new Association Project PR that aims to bring students to board meetings from your programs. Please email your students' names to O'Connell or Bruflat.

·        Question from Kris Sperstad: What is the union formal view on turnovers of administrators? Peck notes that we are concerned that candidates may be picked before interview process is complete. Association Executive Committee told Peck to share this with college. This concern has been shared with college president Bruce Barker.

·        Card Keys  and Remodeling at BEC update: BEC will transition to card keys for classrooms this year. Go to MyCVTC  to review the time line for remodeling and key cards.
